Why You Need to Add Turmeric to Your Beauty Routine

You might already love turmeric for the warmth and flavor it adds to any dish. Once you hear about its beauty benefits, you'll want to add turmeric to your beauty routine.

Curcumin is an active component of turmeric, and it's responsible for the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of turmeric.

Turmeric's anti-inflammatory properties makes it great for treating acne. You can create your own turmeric face mask by mixing plain yogurt, turmeric and honey (which has antibacterial properties). Just apply the mixture to your clean face and rinse off after 15 minutes. Be sure to omit any ingredients you're allergic to. Purified water or aloe vera are great substitutes to yogurt.

Plus, turmeric has been known to reduce scaring (due to its antimicrobial and astringent properties), so if you have acne scars, this mask is a great option.

Another beauty benefit of turmeric is that it's been shown to help treat psoriasis when applied topically (try mixing it with water or a carrier oil to make a paste).

Lastly, turmeric helps make your skin glow. It's been used in India for years by brides-to-be just before their wedding day to add a special sheen to their faces.

There's one thing to remember about using turmeric - it can leave a little yellow tint on lighter skin tones. It will fade, but just keep that in mind.

Have you added turmeric to your beauty routine?
